Adu to Benfica?

Soccer by Ives is reporting that Freddy Adu is close to joining Portuguese champions, Benfica. The team has reportedly already made a $2.5 million bid which was rejected by the MLS who is holding out for a figure around $7.5 million.

I think this could be a very good step for the young phenom. The Portuguese league will fit his style, and will also give him the chance to see what he has against Champions League opponents. Adu definitley needs a change of scenery, and I doubt he'll not enjoy what Portugal has to offer.

The England league is too physical for him right now. Portugal is a great place for him to start his career in Europe. Get used to the pace, tactics, physicality etc. Then after a few years when he has matured a bit more, I would be all for a move to England
