US U20 midfielder, Danny Szetela, is rumoured to be set to sign a contract with Italian powerhouse AC Roma. The combative midfielder had attracted the likes of Galatasaray, Everton, Middlesbrough, Parma, and Rangers as well, has been keen for a move to Europe for some time after the conclusion of the U20 WC in Canada.
Danny won't actually join up with the Romans until after his contract expires with the MLS December 31st of this year. It ends what has been an injury riddled four years with the Columbus Crew, a club he was never to happy about joining in the first place. Since coming back from Canada though, Danny has been given a starting role in the last few games with the Crew, but with MLS stalling in offering a new contract, can you blame him for jumping the great divide?
I can't see Danny getting too much first team minutes with Roma barring injury from some of their players. It may be that he is loaned out to a Serie B club, or that he plays with Roma's primaverra squad. Regardless, I like the move for a very promising future US midfielder.
Danny joins Sal Zizzo and Freddy Adu from the U20 squad to have signed in Europe. Freddy signed with Benfica and Zizzo has signed with Hannover 96.
